Chroma ATE Inc.

Chroma

Chroma ATE Inc. is a Taiwanese precision test and measurement company built on a single disciplined idea: that the truth of a measurement decides whether a product is good enough to ship. Founded in 1984 and headquartered at No. 88 Wenmao Road in Guishan District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan, the company designs, assembles and markets its instruments worldwide under the brand name Chroma. Its products are the measurement backbone of modern electronics manufacturing: precision test instrumentation, automated test systems and intelligent manufacturing systems. Chroma serves customers across AI data centers and semiconductors, visual display, smart mobility, sustainable energy and smart factories, covering ICs, photonics, batteries and energy storage, electric vehicles, flat panel displays, power electronics and automated optical inspection. The deepest franchise is power electronics test. Chroma is a leading global supplier of programmable AC and DC power sources, regenerative grid simulators, bidirectional DC supplies, battery simulators, regenerative AC and DC electronic loads and digital power meters. The portfolio is organized as coherent product families rather than one-off instruments. The 63700 series of regenerative DC electronic loads returns energy to the grid instead of burning it as heat, while the 61800 series of regenerative grid simulators reproduces any mains condition a device might encounter. Around these instruments Chroma builds complete automated test systems on the Chroma 8000 architecture, configured for adapter and charger testing, DC-DC converters, EVSE and EV power electronics, PCS and PV inverters, LED drivers and server power shelves, with Power HIL testbeds placing real hardware inside a simulated electrical environment. That concentration put Chroma at the center of the AI infrastructure build-out. As accelerator racks pushed server power supply units and battery backup units toward far higher wattage and strict OCP M-CRPS and ORV3 compliance, the company assembled complete server power test solutions from instruments it already owned, adding the Chroma 8000 Server Power Automated Test System for PSUs, rectifiers, power shelves and racks. The same core propagates into electric vehicles, covering onboard chargers, DC-DC converters, charging interoperability and battery management systems; into batteries, from cell insulation measurement to all-in-one formation systems and pack-level Power HIL testbeds; and into energy storage, addressing power conversion systems and grid-code validation. A second engine sits in semiconductors and photonics: VLSI, SoC and analog test systems, PXIe IC test modules and RFIC test sets, with handlers spanning advanced-packaging final test, tri-temperature and system level test, alongside crystal wafer probing and SiPh electrical test. The Optical Inspection Solutions unit adds 2D and 3D wafer and panel metrology, and the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems unit supplies MES, equipment automation and energy platforms. Manufacturing is deliberately integrated rather than outsourced. Chroma runs its own production space and assembly lines in Taiwan, keeps optical, mechanical, electronic, thermal and software engineering under one roof, and serves customers through subsidiaries and distributors across Europe, the Americas, Japan, Korea, China and Southeast Asia. Sustained research investment underpins the portfolio, and its 2025 ranking as the 24th Best Taiwan Global Brands reflects an unusual achievement for an instrumentation maker: becoming a systems-level partner to the industries defining AI and electrification.

Business Nature

Chroma ATE Inc. manufactures through an owned-facility, vertically integrated model, designing, assembling and testing its core instruments on its own lines rather than outsourcing. Its principal site is the Huaya plant in Guishan District, Taoyuan City, which with the headquarters opened in December 2020 provides more than 104,000 square metres of production space with module lines, instrument and ATS assembly lines and a mechatronics line. A second Taoyuan phase adds 106,000 square metres with SMT, PCBA and mechatronics lines, and Kaohsiung adds 13,000 square metres of mechatronics assembly.

In-house output spans three layers: high-power hardware such as programmable AC and DC sources, regenerative loads and digital power meters; cabinet and system integration, combining instruments, switching matrices and handlers into automated test systems; and test software, where driver libraries and test programs let a user define specifications and run a test sequence. Vertical integration lets Chroma build server power test systems from its own sources and loads, and the small-volume, diverse-product model makes in-house assembly the only realistic way to build to order.

Corporate Report

Chroma ATE Inc. is a Taoyuan-based precision test and measurement specialist that converted a deep competence in power electronics measurement into a global franchise spanning server power automated test equipment, programmable AC and DC power sources, regenerative electronic loads, EV and battery test systems, semiconductor test and automated optical inspection. Listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange under 2360, it reported consolidated revenue of NT$28.31 billion (about US$944 million) for 2025.

Industry Position

Chroma combines instrument design with system integration, placing it in a different competitive tier from pure instrument makers and pure integration houses. Its 63700 series regenerative DC electronic loads and 61800 series regenerative grid simulators are reference products in power measurement, and the company describes itself as a world leading supplier of precision test and measurement instrumentation, with leadership in power measurement alongside a strong position in semiconductor component testing. In 2025 it ranked No. 24 among the Best Taiwan Global Brands.

Fiscal 2025 was a step change rather than an increment. Consolidated revenue grew 31% to NT$28.31 billion, from NT$21.60 billion in 2024 and NT$18.68 billion in 2023. Net income reached roughly NT$11.69 billion and earnings per share about NT$27.51. Test instruments and automated test systems accounted for about 49% of parent-company sales and semiconductor and photonics test solutions about 43%.

Competitive Advantages

The durable advantage is vertical integration of instrument and system. Because Chroma designs its own power sources, electronic loads, meters and safety analyzers, it assembles complete test systems without negotiating third-party instrument roadmaps. Validated test sequences then survive hardware upgrades, since existing procedures and drivers can often be reused at higher power levels. Chroma presents this platform-conversion capability as a key strength, and it lowers the cost of an upgrade decision for customers.

Regenerative architecture is the second advantage. Testing a multi-kilowatt server power shelf or battery pack with dissipative loads wastes energy as heat, whereas Chroma's regenerative loads and bidirectional supplies feed it back to the grid, cutting operating cost while supporting customer carbon commitments. The same engineering base enables high-slew-rate dynamic loading, MW-level parallel operation and Power HIL configurations. Chroma manufactures on its own lines, including SMT, PCBA, module, instrument and ATS, and mechatronics assembly.

Strategic Expansion

The clearest growth vector is AI infrastructure. High-power server PSUs, power shelves, rack-level distribution and battery backup units created a demanding measurement problem in a short window, answered by the Chroma 8000 Server Power Automated Test System covering output performance, input characteristics, regulation, timing and transients, protection and PMBus under OCP M-CRPS and ORV3. Momentum continued into 2026, with trailing twelve-month revenue near NT$40.4 billion by mid-2026 per market data aggregators.

A second vector is semiconductor and advanced packaging test. At SEMICON Taiwan 2026 Chroma presented a validation ecosystem covering advanced packaging and IC test, power semiconductor validation and RF and wireless test, including 2D/3D wafer and panel metrology for TSVs, vias and RDLs, a Lab-to-Fab path from the 3210-A engineering platform to the 3200 production platform, final test platforms supporting up to 5 kW thermal dissipation, and the 3650-S2C tester for 3.3 kV SiC devices.

Risks & Outlook

Geography is a structural consideration. In 2025 the Americas generated roughly NT$9.02 billion and Taiwan about NT$8.94 billion, while China contributed about NT$7.23 billion, close to US$240 million. That is a global book, but it carries exposure to export controls, tariffs and the volatile investment cycle of Chinese electronics and electric vehicle manufacturers. Concentration among a few very large AI server power customers would amplify any inventory correction, and Chroma's small-volume, diverse-product model limits margin expansion through volume alone.

Offsetting factors are substantial. AI power delivery is durable rather than fashionable demand, since every watt must be validated before deployment and the requirement scales with power level. The regenerative portfolio aligns with customer economics and sustainability mandates, and packaging investments place Chroma inside the fastest-growing test segment. VerityRank Score of 87/100.
