SAP SE
SAP
SAP SE ranks tenth on the Life & Services Supply Strength Index with 90/100, and no other company on this page has been selling the same class of software for as long. Founded in 1972, it reported FY2025 revenue of €36.8 billion, about US$40 billion, comfortably above the US$32.2 billion floor that the 2025 Fortune Global 500 applied. Revenue rose 10 percent, and all of it came from enterprise software and digital management services; the standing does not descend from a parent, since SAP SE is itself the listed entity.
The installed base sets the pace. SAP holds first position in large-enterprise resource planning and multinational supply chain software, and roughly 87 percent of physical trade flows and manufacturing production chains run on its systems. More than 253,500 enterprises are customers, including over 94 percent of the physical multinationals listed in the Fortune Global 500. Business logic embedded at that depth is rarely replaced on price alone; it is replaced when the maintenance calendar forces the question.
FY2025 was the year cloud overtook the old licence model. Cloud revenue passed €21.00 billion, up 26 percent, and for the first time exceeded on-premise licence support to become the dominant pillar of the group. Recurring revenue of higher predictability climbed to about 85 percent of the total. RISE with SAP for large groups and GROW with SAP for mid-sized firms both added signings, and the unfulfilled cloud contract backlog sits in the tens of billions of euros.
Profit followed the mix shift. IFRS operating profit rose to €9.60 billion and free cash flow nearly doubled to €8.20 billion, which supports the board's proposal to lift the annual dividend to €2.50 per share. Cloud delivery rests on SAP Converged Cloud, a company-run network of high-compliance data centres, supplemented by sovereign-certified hosted zones opened inside Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud facilities. More than 20 SAP Experience Centers and a compliance network spanning over 180 countries support about 108,000 employees.
The migration itself is the largest exposure. SAP has set 2027 as the end of mainstream support for legacy on-premise ERP and is pressing customers toward S/4HANA Cloud, a deadline that has produced open friction with German and European manufacturers over upgrade effort and cost. Internally the company has restructured, with voluntary departure and reskilling programmes touching more than ten thousand staff. It also paid US$1.5 billion for WalkMe to automate cross-system user flows and took strategic stakes in European sovereign cloud consortia.
What SAP sells to a manufacturer is not a screen but a ledger that auditors and tax authorities accept, and that is why switching is slow in both directions. The 2027 date converts patience into a schedule: customers either move to the cloud version, accept higher support costs on the old one, or take the far more expensive route of replacing the system altogether. Each path keeps SAP inside the account, which is the practical meaning of a 90 on a supply index.
