Florette

Florette is the packaged-salad and fresh-vegetable brand of the French agricultural cooperative Agrial, and it is not held by a legal entity of its own. In France it is operated by FLORETTE FRANCE (SIREN 451353734, Caluire-et-Cuire) and in the United Kingdom and Ireland by AGRIAL FRESH PRODUCE LTD (Companies House 03687920, Fradley, Lichfield). The parent is SOCIÉTÉ COOPÉRATIVE AGRICOLE ET AGRO-ALIMENTAIRE AGRIAL, the cooperative registered at 4 rue des Roquemonts, 14000 Caen. Florette is not a Fortune Global 500 company: Agrial's 2025 turnover of €7.3bn is about a quarter of the 2025 entry threshold.

Florette's history runs further back inside Agrial than is usually assumed. The family business was founded in Normandy in 1983 by Emile Ryckeboer, a pioneer of packaged fresh vegetables and ready-to-eat salads, and it joined the Agrial cooperative in 1985. The Florette brand was created in 1987, when the first branded production site opened in Normandy. The Iberian and British businesses came into the group later, through transactions whose dates are not verified here.

Agrial does not report Florette revenue separately. The closest published perimeter is Agrial's Légumes branch, which contains Florette and reported €1.3bn of 2025 turnover and 5,700 employees. That €1.3bn is an upper bound for the Florette perimeter, not Florette revenue: the branch also contains Priméale, Priméale Ibérica, Florette Ibérica, Florette UK and first-range trading. Group turnover in 2025, a calendar year whose accounts were approved on 11 June 2026, was €7.3bn with EBITDA of €269m, against €7.1bn in 2024.

No separate Florette headcount is published either. Agrial employed 17,500 people in 2025, the Légumes branch 5,700, and Florette France sits in the INSEE bracket of 1,000-1,999 employees for 2024. The group reports 97 transformation sites in 11 countries in its 2025 activity report, while its own press boilerplate says more than 100; no Florette-only count exists. Sites named include L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in France, Wendelsheim in Germany, Milagro and the Canary Islands in Spain, and Fradley in the United Kingdom.

Florette is a leading packaged-salad brand in France, Spain and the United Kingdom, and is sold at retail across Western Europe, including Germany, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands. The brand ranked 26th among food brands in Spain for recognition, and sales in France rose 10% in 2025. Ownership is cooperative: 12,000 farmer-members, 545 farmer-elected directors and no outside investors, with Bernard Guillard as chairman and Julien Heillaut as chief executive since 1 July 2025.

The 2025 record is not uniformly positive. Agrial's Légumes branch declined overall after two favourable years, with the fresh-produce unit hit hardest; the first-range market was very difficult for potatoes and carrots; Florette UK had a particularly difficult year and Florette Ibérica was set back by an IT overhaul of its planning tool. Priméale Ibérica lost a spring carrot export campaign, and weather and insect pressure threaten open-field leaf yields in France and southern Europe. Private labels and first-price lines also gained share. The proposed merger with Terrena, announced on 22 September 2025, remains at the study stage and needs member votes plus French competition clearance.

Business Nature

The Florette brand holds no assets: everything is held and operated by subsidiaries of Agrial. FLORETTE FRANCE runs the French business from Caluire-et-Cuire; AGRIAL FRESH PRODUCE LTD Companies House 03687920 runs the UK and Irish business from Fradley, with Florette Ibérica and Florette Germany alongside them. Upstream, ownership runs back to farmers. Agrial is a cooperative with 12,000 farmer-members and no outside investors, and its Légumes branch counted 130 vegetable-producer members supplying 117,000 tonnes in 2025. Raw material therefore comes from member farms rather than the open market, unlike investor-owned salad brands. Processing is held inside the group. Agrial reports 97 transformation sites in 11 countries, while its press boilerplate says more than 100. Florette-related sites named include L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Wendelsheim in Germany, Milagro and the Canary Islands in Spain, and Fradley in the United Kingdom; no Florette-only count is published. One boundary must stay clear. The €1.3bn Légumes turnover is an upper bound for the Florette perimeter, not brand revenue, as it also contains Priméale, Priméale Ibérica and first-range trading; Agrial publishes no full profit and loss account.

Corporate Report

Florette is the packaged-salad and fresh-vegetable brand of the French agricultural cooperative Agrial. It has no legal entity of its own: the French business is FLORETTE FRANCE and the UK and Irish business is AGRIAL FRESH PRODUCE LTD, both held through the cooperative SOCIÉTÉ COOPÉRATIVE AGRICOLE ET AGRO-ALIMENTAIRE AGRIAL, which reported €7.3bn of 2025 turnover and 17,500 employees. VerityRank places Florette seventh among the Top 10 Fresh Vegetables Brands; it is not a Fortune Global 500 company.

Industry Position

Florette sits at the branded end of the European packaged-salad market, a category it helped create. Its founder, Emile Ryckeboer, was a pioneer of packaged fresh vegetables and ready-to-eat salads in Normandy in 1983, and the brand was formalised in 1987. Today the brand is a leading packaged-salad name in France, Spain and the United Kingdom, and is sold at retail across Western Europe, from Germany and Italy to Belgium and the Netherlands.

Its position is unusual because it is owned by a farming cooperative rather than by investors. Agrial is a société coopérative agricole with 12,000 farmer-members and no outside shareholders; the Légumes branch that contains Florette works with 130 vegetable-producer members who supplied 117,000 tonnes of vegetables in 2025. That structure links the brand directly to its growers, but it also means the brand's own economics are never reported separately.

Competitive Advantages

The first advantage is upstream control. Florette is embedded in a cooperative whose members supply its raw material, so leaf, potato and carrot volumes are tied to member farms rather than to spot markets, and the Légumes branch reported a satisfactory 2025 with Florette consolidating its position and sales in France up 10%. The Spanish business was especially strong, and Florette was ranked 26th among food brands in Spain for recognition.

The second is manufacturing and brand reach across several countries. Florette France operates from Caluire-et-Cuire with sites including L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the UK and Irish business runs from Florette House at Fradley, and Florette Ibérica and Florette Germany complete the European platform. The 2025 rebrand of Créaline to Florette and a new logo in 2026 concentrate one identity across those markets.

Strategic Expansion

Growth at Florette has been built by adding businesses rather than by opening greenfield sites: the British and Iberian fresh-produce operations were bought into the group over time, and the brand has been extended geographically since its Normandy origin, most recently by converting the Spanish Créaline name to Florette in 2025 and refreshing the logo in 2026.

The larger strategic question is the proposed merger with Terrena, announced on 22 September 2025. It remains at the study stage as of Agrial's 2025 annual report, and requires votes by the farmer-members of both cooperatives, consultation with staff representatives and approval by the French competition authority. Agrial's 2025 turnover of €7.3bn and Terrena's €5.6bn for 2024 would together represent about €12.7bn, though the announcement itself states no combined figure.

Risks & Outlook

The clearest risk is financial opacity at brand level. Florette revenue is not disclosed, and the frequently quoted figure of about €1.3bn is Agrial's whole Légumes branch — the upper bound of the perimeter that contains Florette, not the brand's own turnover. That branch also houses Priméale, Priméale Ibérica, Florette Ibérica and first-range trading, and Agrial discloses turnover and EBITDA without publishing a full profit and loss account. No standalone Florette comparison with listed peers is possible.

Operating risks were visible in 2025: the Légumes branch declined after two favourable years, with the fresh-produce unit hit hardest, the first-range potato and carrot market very difficult, Florette UK having a particularly difficult year, Florette Ibérica set back by an IT overhaul and Priméale Ibérica losing a spring carrot export campaign. Weather and insect pressure remain structural threats to open-field leaf production, and private labels are gaining share. VerityRank Score of 84/100.
