Packaging machinery is undergoing its most profound technological shift since the servo motor: the convergence of machine vision, industrial AI and cloud-connected lifecycle services. The consequences are visible across every tier of the top 10.
Vision inspection has become a regulatory expectation, not an option. IMA's AI-driven defect detection systems check every blister pack and capsule in real time; Coesia's fully automatic vision and error-correction lines serve aerospace, semiconductor and luxury goods customers with zero-defect tolerance. In pharma, where a single foreign particle can trigger a recall costing hundreds of millions, machine learning models now outperform human inspectors on both speed and consistency.
Predictive maintenance is shifting the business model from machines to outcomes. Krones won the 2026 Microsoft Smart Manufacturing Award for cloud-based predictive maintenance and industrial edge computing; BOBST's Connect digital platform locks in the upgrade market across its installed base of die-cutters and folders.
