Top 10 Offshore Equipment Manufacturers & Suppliers

HomeTransportation Equipment ManufacturersTop 10 Offshore Equipment Manufacturers & Suppliers
Last Updated: August 2026·By VerityRank Research Team·Methodology

Not every company that sells offshore equipment actually builds it — and this ranking exists for exactly that reason. The offshore equipment market is crowded with licensors, brands and asset-light integrators, but only a handful of companies own the dry docks, mega-cranes and heavy fabrication yards required to physically construct an FPSO hull, a floating production platform or a subsea tree. VerityRank applies a strict one-vote veto: to qualify, a company must own or control fabrication infrastructure such as dry docks, heavy-equipment machining plants, deep-water quaysides or pre…

Frequently Asked Questions

What Separates an Offshore Equipment Manufacturer from a Brand or Integrator?
The difference is physical infrastructure, and VerityRank polices it with a one-vote veto.

An autonomous manufacturer owns or controls the fabrication assets that turn steel into offshore hardware: dry docks, heavy machining plants, deep-water quaysides or precision subsea manufacturing bases. CSSC, HD KSOE, Seatrium and Samsung Heavy Industries qualify through their shipyards; TechnipFMC and Baker Hughes through subsea tree plants, flexible-pipe factories and turbine works; NOV through drilling-equipment plants on four continents.

A brand or integrator, by contrast, designs and manages but does not build. SLB's OneSubsea joint venture blends into manufacturing through its partner plants, but pure asset-light players such as SBM Offshore and MODEC - which outsource hull fabrication to Chinese yards - are excluded from this manufacturer ranking even though they are global leaders in FPSO ownership and operations. Their exclusion is not a judgment on quality; it reflects the strict definition of autonomous production this list enforces.

The practical consequence: every company on this page can point to specific yards, cranes and tonnage through its own factories, and each one's production strength (40% of score) is verified against public facility disclosures and annual reports.
Why Do Western Firms Still Manufacture Subsea Systems While Asian Yards Build the Platforms?
Subsea manufacturing is the one offshore segment where the East-West division of labour runs in the West's favour.

Subsea trees, wellheads, manifolds and production-control systems are precision-machined, hyperbaric-tested products with tight tolerances and strong software integration - a different manufacturing economics from hull steel. TechnipFMC machines and tests trees and manifolds in its own plants and runs the world's leading flexible-pipe factories in Brazil and France; Baker Hughes holds roughly 26% of global subsea services and operates a 49,000-square-metre subsea hub in Norway with 22,500 psi test capability. These facilities are difficult to replicate: the installed base, qualification regimes and decades of deepwater testing data create barriers that Asian yards have only begun to approach.

Meanwhile the platform and hull business has migrated East. Korea's Ulsan and Geoje mega-yards, Singapore's Tuas yards and China's state shipyard groups offer the scale, steel economics and financing that Western yards abandoned. The result is a manufacturing duopoly of complementary strengths: the West machines the subsea brain; the East welds the floating body, and both sets of factories are running near full capacity in the 2025-2026 upcycle.
Who Dominates FLNG Fabrication, and Why Is It So Concentrated?
Floating LNG (FLNG) production is the most concentrated manufacturing segment in offshore equipment, and Samsung Heavy Industries sits at its centre.

Samsung Heavy controls more than half of global FLNG construction capacity, a share built on the cryogenic expertise accumulated since the world's first FLNG hulls: handling liquefied gas at -163°C demands specialised containment systems, topside processing layouts and welding qualifications that few yards possess. HD KSOE and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries have matched this capability at Ulsan, while China State Shipbuilding Corporation is scaling its own FLNG offering through Shanghai Waigaoqiao and Hudong-Zhonghua, targeting the next wave of gas-sanctioned projects.

Concentration persists because FLNG is a bet-the-field business: each unit is a multi-billion-dollar, multi-year build requiring simultaneous cryogenic, marine and process engineering. Only yards with existing mega-cranes, large dry docks and deepwater launch capability can tender. Analysts expect several new FLNG awards in 2026 - including Delfin and Western LNG projects - which will reinforce the existing duopoly of Korean and, increasingly, Chinese fabricators.
How Are Wind Installation Vessels and HVDC Converter Platforms Becoming a Manufacturing Race?
Offshore wind has created two new heavy-manufacturing franchises: WTIVs (wind turbine installation vessels) and HVDC converter platforms.

On the installation-vessel side, escalating turbine sizes demand ever-larger jack-up vessels with heavier cranes. NOV is the leading supplier of WTIV heavy cranes and motion-compensation systems, while ZPMC has delivered multiple 5,000-tonne-class heavy-lift and wind installation platforms from its Changxing Island base, and CIMC Raffles has secured floating wind foundation demonstration orders. Korea's Samsung Heavy and HD KSOE are also competing for WTIV hulls as the global fleet ages.

On the converter-platform side, the manufacturing prize is gigawatt-scale HVDC topsides. Seatrium has won four 2.2 GW converter platforms from Germany's TenneT alone - a near-monopoly on the largest wind converter structures - and CSSC and CIMC Raffles are building similar capabilities for China's offshore wind grid. As Europe's North Sea wind build-out accelerates and China moves into deeper water, these two manufacturing races are increasingly determining which offshore yards win the renewable-energy order flow of the next decade.
How Are China's Offshore Equipment Manufacturers Competing on the Global Stage?
China has moved from low-cost hull supplier to a full-capability offshore manufacturer in one decade.

At the top sits China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the world's largest shipbuilding and offshore group, whose yards - including Shanghai Waigaoqiao, which delivered the first deep-sea carbon-capture FPSO in 2026 - build FPSOs, FLNG units, jack-ups and offshore wind substations under state-coordinated scale. ZPMC brings the world's biggest port-crane heritage into offshore lifting and wind installation vessels, with a 5-kilometre deep-water coastline on Changxing Island, and CIMC Raffles leverages its 20,000-tonne "Taishan" gantry crane and Blue Whale 1 deepwater pedigree to win FPSO topside modules from Petrobras and European majors.

Competitiveness comes from scale economics, abundant engineering talent and state-backed financing, but challenges remain: compliance scrutiny in Western markets (notably the US Section 301 maritime review), intellectual-property concerns and the export-control environment. Still, on raw fabrication capability, Chinese yards now account for the majority of global FPSO-hull and jack-up capacity, and their share of high-value offshore work - FLNG modules, wind platforms and deepwater drilling rigs - is rising faster than any competitor group.
